About us

Pastryclub: our story

We, Jurgen Koens and Richard van Gent are two passionate patissiers with over thirty years of experience in the catering and pastry industry.

As experienced patissiers we thrive on sharing our passion with our guests, which is why we founded the Pastryclub. The free, inviting atmosphere at Pastryclub inspires guests to work with the products themselves. We are delighted to welcome our guests to our workspace. We like to involve guests in the creation process and share our knowledge with them, but above all we wish to inspire them.

About Jurgen

I was born in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on February 15, 1977, and was brought up on a love for everything to do with food. I will never forget the smell of fresh baked goods in my grandmother’s kitchen, where my passion for pastry was born.

Experience

When I was fourteen, I started working as a kitchen help during the weekends and holidays in a hotel in Cadzand. It was my first step of my hospitality industry journey! In search of the most inspiring environments I ended up at De Kromme Watergang, De Swaen, La Gavroche, Chef pastry Manoir Inter Scaldes, Chef pastry cruiseship Navigator (Radisons Seven Seas), Chef patisserie Maison van den Boer, Product developer / demonstrator for Cnudde and brand ambassador for Cacao Barry chocolate.

About Richard

My name is Richard van Gent, I was born on June 17, 1986 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Ever since I was a boy, I wanted to become a pastry chef. I often helped my mother to make all kinds of delicacies. When I heard that my grandfather used to be a cook and pastry chef, I knew for sure: “It’s in my genes!”.

Experience

Obviously, after secondary school I went to the ROC in Eindhoven to follow the “leidinggevende ambachtelijke bakkerij” (bakery manager) course. After a number of internships at various bakeries, I ended up at Patisserie de Rouw in Vught (multiple “Best Dutch pastry shop” winner), where I worked for several years and had the opportunity to develop myself professionally. This is what I wanted; making luxury pastry, chocolate and ice cream products.

I found my next challenge at Maison van den Boer’s patisserie department. It was a great learning experience that paved the road for another adventure: Pastryclub!
